Suicide-car-bomber
A suicide bomber targeting worshipers at a mosque in Konduga village, Borno State in Nigeria’s north east region has killed five people and wounded dozens
Reports say the Muslims in that village were observing Friday prayers when a pickup truck approached.
A local vigilante group stopped the truck to inspect it and the bomber detonated the bomb a few metres away from the mosque.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
An Islamic sect, Boko Haram, seeking an Islamic state and an end to western education has claimed responsibility for similar attacks in the past.
Military operations aimed at ending the insurgency have been on since the insurgency started in 2009.
The group has carried out most of its attacks in three northeast states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe, a situation that led to the declaration of a state of emergency in the three states.
The group in April, abducted over 200 girls from the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State. The girls are still in their custody despite military efforts and international supports to rescue the girls.
The military says it is being cautious, as any force in the rescue effort could be counterproductive.
