The Minister of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation, Chief Edem Duke, says all is set for the hosting of the 2014 African Fashion Reception in Nigeria.
Duke said this while hosting members of the World Fashion Organisation led by Mr Lexy Mojo-Eyes, the Founder of Branzuk Gold, in Abuja on Tuesday.
He said the event, which would hold from July 3 to July 5 in Abuja, would be a celebration of cultural diversity expressed through the artistic fashion discipline.
The minister said the event with the theme, ‘Africa is the new inspiration of global fashion’, would be declared open by President Goodluck Jonathan.
According to him, Africa Fashion Reception is aimed at building bridges by creating free trade and partnership among fashion practitioners in the African continent.
Duke said the event would attract global attention to Africa’s rich and diversified dress culture and serve as catalyst for the social economic growth of the continent’s textile industry.
Earlier, Mojo-Eyes said that Africa did not need aid from international community but assistance to develop and make commercially viable, its creative industries to bring meaningful development for wealth creation.
Mojo-Eyes said fashion industry could create jobs for millions of people and reduce the level of poverty in the country.
He said the event would feature 40 notable designers from Africa, 120 international fashion and textile designers across the world.
He said that the benefit of hosting the event was to bring the first World Fashion University to Nigeria and the first Africa World Class Garment manufacturing plant.
The other benefit, Mojo-Eyes said, included the creation of 150,000 jobs annually for women and youths in various fashion vocations with world class designing application.
He said that the design of the university would be unveiled by Jonathan at the event
