Colombia has been named the happiest country in the world for the second time.
I’ve never been to Colombia, but I do have a Colombian friend. This makes me feel comfortable enough to say that the only two things I think of when I hear the word ‘Colombia’ are cocaine, and Sofia Vergara. Of course there was that recent beauty pageant publicity stunt where Miss Colombia was dethroned, but that was so obvious I don’t even want to discuss it.
According to the results of the WIN/Gallup International Association’s annual end of the year survey, Colombia was named the country with the happiest people. 66,040 people from 68 countries were surveyed, and 87 percent of Colombians said they were happy, while only 2 percent said they weren’t. Their ‘net happiness score’ is 85 percent, which is 20 percent above the global average, and double the US.

Colombia has gorgeous beaches, with access to both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. It has rain forests, mountains, futbol, gorgeous weather, world-famous coffee, delicious food, beautiful people, and a relaxed lifestyle. Is there anything on that short list that doesn’t sound like paradise? I really don’t think so, and I don’t even drink coffee.
I will when I visit Colombia, though. My friend always tells me that there is a lot more to Colombia than getting shot up by a drug cartel and having my body stuffed with condoms full of narcotics, then shipped back to the US in a body bag.
I am starting to believe him.
