The Edo State Police Command, said it invaded the hideout of suspected notorious gang of kidnappers that specialized in kidnapping little children and arrested them.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP, Mr. Chris Ezike, who paraded the suspects, weekend, said his command had dealt a heavy blow on kidnappers and armed robbers in the state.
Ezike said the gang had a camp in the bush near Benin city where they kept their victims before demanding for ransom.
“The era of Kidnappers and armed robbers having a field day in Edo is gone. Our anti-crime strategies have made tremendous breakthroughs.
“The suspects are the most wanted and deadliest in the state. It took our well-coordinated anti-kidnapping team time to arrest them.
“We were careful to avoid harming the children. The suspects had been terrorising Benin City for some time before we nabbed them.
[ads-post]
“When we got their location and moved against them, they resisted and shot our policemen but we got them at last. I want to urge criminals to vacate this state because we would get them.
“We actually monitored these kidnappers and did a coordinated tracking of their telephone numbers and their location,” the CP added.
The alleged kingpin of the syndicate, Lucky Usifo, had been on the wanted list of the Police for over a period of time.
Usifo, fondly called General, confessed before newsmen at the Police headquarters in Benin City saying, “Really, I am the gang leader. Mine was just to receive information about a prospective victim and I would organise the show.
“I work with insiders or close relatives of our victims. I prefer kidnapping children from five years below. They are easy to handle. Once you capture and give them assurance that you love them, they would be calm.
“I feed them with bobo, pap and noodles. Sometimes, they would make request for a choice of food but when you explain to them that you don’t have the money to buy the food, they would understand.
“The operation that put us in this mess was the kidnap of twin sisters. They are three years old. It was Frank that brought the deal.
Frank, according to reports, lives in the same compound with the twins’ parents.
He was said to have given the gang leader a clue on how they could work on one Junior who would give them access to the compound.
“We really perfected the plans and picked the girls. We took them to our camp in the bush where we fed them with pap, soft drinks and biscuits,” Usifo added.
“My anger is that Frank played over our intelligence, we demanded for N1million ransom and Frank went behind to collect the money. They did not give us a dime.
“Frank just used us to collect money from the victims’ family. We later realised that Frank and his sister had collected the ransom and warned the family to stop picking our calls.
“We were armed robbers before we went into kidnapping. We have just carried out two kidnappings, but we have carried out several robbery operations.
“I am from Igeduma, our hit man; Samuel Iredia is from Afuze in Edo State. Iredia is our driver but whenever there is need to confront the Police in gun duel, he is a professional. He is also useful whenever there is need to shoot our enemies.
“Osamuyi Idahosa is the guard; he keeps watch over our camp. Frank is from Agbor. He is just an informant. The lady in our gang is the person that feeds our victims,” the suspect confessed.

A day later, he received another email saying, "You recently received an offer of admission email from York University. Please accept our apologies — we made a mistake ...
Jailani didn't hide his disappointment. He tweeted, "I hate university already :)," a tweet which was liked almost 3000 times.
Rider said the school has apologized to the students. She added that they've been informed their applications are under consideration.

The world’s richest 62 people now own as much wealth as half of the world’s population, according to a report by the charity Oxfam. Super-rich individuals saw an increase of 44 percent since 2010, taking their cumulative wealth to $1.76 trillion – equivalent to the total owned by 3.5 billion of the world’s poorest people. The UK-based charity on Monday also said tax havens were helping corporations and individuals stash away about $7.6 trillion, depriving governments of $190bn in tax revenue every year.
Speaking to Al Jazeera, Oxfam Australia’s Chief Executive Helen Szoke said there were no appropriate mechanisms to check if wealth was being shared appropriately. “We believe there is a need for commitments from global business leaders and political leaders for major tax reform to get rid of the tax havens,” Szoke said. “There’s too much leakage of what should be paid in taxation exacerbating this gap [between rich and poor].”
Referring to economic growth in Western countries, such as her native Australia, Szoke said little wealth was reaching the impoverished. “The startling figure in our domestic context in Australia is that where there has been wealth generation in the last decade, none of that has actually trickled down to some of the Australians who are poor.”

The US has imposed fresh sanctions on Iranian companies and individuals over a recent ballistic missile test. The new sanctions prevent 11 entities and individuals linked to the missile programme from using the US banking system. The move came after international nuclear sanctions on Iran were lifted as part of a deal hailed by President Barack Obama on Sunday as “smart”.
Four American-Iranians were also freed in a prisoner swap as part of the deal. Among them was Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian – whom President Obama described as “courageous”. A fifth American was freed separately. Rezaian and two of the others freed flew to a US base in Germany via Geneva for medical evaluation.
Another, Nosratollah Khosravi-Roodsari, did not fly out with the others, US officials said. A fifth man, Matthew Trevithick, was freed in a separate process. The US said it had offered clemency to seven Iranians being held in the US for sanctions violations. Negotiations in December over the prisoner exchange delayed the US Treasury’s imposition of the latest sanctions.
They were only announced once the plane containing the former prisoners had left Iran, reports said. They were triggered by Iran conducting a precision-guided ballistic missile test capable of delivering a nuclear warhead last October, violating a United Nations ban. “Iran’s ballistic missile programme poses a significant threat to regional and global security, and it will continue to be subject to international sanctions,” said Adam J Szubin, US acting under-secretary for terrorism and financial intelligence.

The number of women using donated sperm to get pregnant is rising, but many find the cost of treatment at private clinics prohibitive. This has led some women to use unlicensed donors – but are they putting their health at risk? Simon Watson, 41, has been an unlicensed sperm donor for 16 years, donating once a week. “Usually one [baby] a week pops out. I reckon I’ve got about 800 so far, so within four years I’d like to crack 1,000,” he tells the Victoria Derbyshire programme.. “I’ve got kids all the way from Spain to Taiwan, so many countries. I’d like to get the world record ever, make sure no-one’s going to break it, get as many as possible.”
Very few women are eligible for artificial insemination on the NHS as the criteria are very strict. Private licensed clinics cost between £500 and £1,000 for each cycle of treatment. Men are allowed to father no more than 10 children. Mr Watson charges £50 for his services – the “magic potion pot” – and most of his clients find him on Facebook.
They ask him questions, such as whether he has any hereditary diseases, then they meet, often at a service station on the M1. Clients either book a room in the hotel or use the public toilets. He provides his own pot and syringe, and is tested for STDs every three months, posting his hospital certificate online. He claims a third of his donations work first time.
“If you go to a fertility clinic people have to go through lots of hurdles – counselling sessions, huge amounts of tests and then charge absolute fortunes for the service – but realistically if you’ve got a private donor you can just go and see them, meet them somewhere, get what you want and just go,” he explains.

The police in Lagos State are investigating an alleged rape of a Primary five pupil, Zainab (pseudonym) by a gang of five men in the Bariga area of Lagos State.
Punch Metro gathered that the police had arrested all the suspects, who were being interrogated at the Bariga Police Division.
Zainab, 15, was said to have been lured into an apartment on Opeloyeru Street, where the men took turns to rape her.
It was gathered that the victim’s “crime” was that she turned down the advances of one of the men, identified as Femi, who wanted to date her.
The victim and her father were said to have first reported the case at the Oworonshoki Police Division, which allegedly dismissed it.
A family friend, however, took it up and reported it to an agency of the Lagos State Government.
Zainab was subsequently taken to the Mirabel Centre of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, for medical tests.
The Kwara State indigene, who spoke with our correspondent, said since the incident, people in the community had been avoiding her like a plague.
She said, “I am in Primary five, but I am also an apprentice in a hairdressing shop. I was given a piece of cloth by my boss on January 6, and I needed a tailor to sew it for me. Mr. Femi said he would assist me and I gave him the cloth.
“But when I went to him to take my clothes, he told me that he wanted to date me. When the pestering did not stop, I let go of the clothes and stopped communicating with him.
“On Monday, January 11, around 8pm, our landlord’s son called me that Abidoye, a neighbour, was looking for me. It was not the first time that I would go to the man’s house to run errands for him or his wife, so I thought he wanted to send me on an errand.
“But on entering the room, I discovered it was dark and the man was not around. As I turned back to go, a group of five men, led by the tailor, grabbed me and blocked my mouth. They took turns to rape me. The whole thing lasted for about one hour.”
It was learnt that Zainab, after the ordeal, started wailing uncontrollably, which caught the attention of her father, identified simply as Adeyemi.
Her father, who expressed sorrow over the incident, said he reported at Oworonshoki, but the police threw away the case.
He said he later told his friend, who then called the Lagos State Office of the Public Defender.
“It is a thing of sorrow for me. How can anybody hear that five men raped my daughter? But we have nobody to help us except God,” the father of three said.
The family friend, who spoke on condition of anonymity, urged that justice be done for the victim and the suspects punished to serve as a deterrent to others.
“This is evil at its peak. I can’t imagine anybody doing this to my daughter,” he added.
Our correspondent learnt that the OPD referred the case to the Ilupeju Police Division, which then issued Zainab a letter to the Mirabel Centre for medical tests.
The matter was later taken over by the Bariga Police Station, which went after the suspects.
A source said the police arrested six suspects.
He said, “The police were working on the girl’s story of five suspects, but after the arrests, the men said there were actually six of them involved in the rape. All of them are currently in detention.”
The Public Relations Officer of OPD, Adeoba Adeniji-Adele, said victims of rape should protect evidence by not taking a shower after attack, saying sweat was a piece of evidence.
He said, “The rate of rape in our society is becoming alarming. We are going to increase our campaign against rape and domestic violence.”
A Texas middle school student was suspended after sharing her inhaler with an asthmatic student who was gasping for breath on Tuesday. She now faces up to 30 days at alternative school, following a hearing on Friday.
Indiyah Rush, 12, may also face a month in an alternative school as part of her punishment, Fox4 reported.
Rush, a A/B honor roll student, was in gym class at Schrade Middle School in Garland, Texas when her classmate began wheezing and gasping for breath.
“Asthma gets worse by every second,” Rush, who has had the disease since she was 5, told Fox4.com.Rush offered the girl her inhaler and the two were sent to the principal’s office, where Rush was punished with several days of at-home suspension and 30 days of alternative school.
According to the school district, sending a student to a month of alternative school is an automatic punishment for sharing a controlled substance, which includes prescription drugs like inhalers. The final punishment may change after a hearing scheduled for Friday.
“It’s a prescription and one student’s severity with asthma may not mirror that of the girl who let the other borrow hers and that could have resulted in some pretty significant issues,” Chris Moore, Garland Independent School District spokesman, told Fox4.Rush’s mother is concerned that time at an alternative school is an excessive punishment.
“My kid would be mixed with kids that are using drugs at school or being caught with drugs, acting out in class,” Monique Rush told Fox4. “I don’t want any of that to rub off on her.”
“I was just trying to save her life,” Indiyah said. “I didn’t know I was doing anything bad.”

This beef was as a result of an award category (THE NEXT RATED CATEGORY) which involved members of the two parties as nominees, after voting had ended, the winner was announced at the show and “REEKADO BANKS” Mavin Superstar Emerged as the winner. For some reasons Olamide did not fully agree to the decision made by the Headies so he decided to pull a Kanye, he went up to the stage and made comments that showed he did not agree to the decision. Later on Don Jazzy also had words for Olamide.it didn’t just end there, later that night Olamide took it to twitter to pour out his anger. What a sad way to start the year.

A spelling exercise for year six pupils with obvious spelling mistakes made by the teacher has gone viral-after an irritated mum shared it on Twitter. The homework task, supposedly designed to help the primary school children with their SATS exams, gives a list of six words they are expected to learn to spell. But two words -sincerely spelled incorrectly as "sincerley" and immediately spelled as "immediateley"- stick out as obvious errors. There was also a typo in the last sentence where the word 'you' should read 'your.'
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Niger State has won the chairmanship seats of all the local governments that elections were conducted last Saturday in the state.
The result has drawn criticisms from other political parties in the state who are alleging that the elections was rigged and manipulated in the 23 local government councils whose results have so far been confirmed.
The results were released by the returning officers from the local government areas at the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) in Minna, yesterday. However election did not take place in Suleja even as the SIEC did not disclose to journalists the reasons for that.
The election results in Shiroro was said to have been undergoing sorting at press time, hence the result was not formerly released. However there are indications that the APC may also win the local government council to give the party 100 per cent victory in the election.
The result showed that the ruling All Progressives Congress has toed the line of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last local government election in 2012 when all the councils were won by PDP.
Like the 2012 local government election some of those interviewed expressed reservation over adherence to the laid down procedure by the state commission.

The JTF Commander, Maj.-Gen. Alani Okunlola, gave the warning on Sunday while inspecting the site of Friday’s pipeline explosion site at Egwa 11, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta.
Okunlola, who led other security personnel to the explosion site, also warned that henceforth, extant laws banning the use of outboard engines with 200 horsepower and above would be enforced in the region.
"This warning is coming as a result of the recent multiple attacks on oil facilities and platforms by suspected militants in the Niger Delta,’’ he said.
The JTF commander, who described the acts as economic sabotage, assured that the command would apprehend the perpetrators.
He, therefore, advised them to desist from further destruction of the nation’s oil and gas facilities.
He called on government officials and community leaders to furnished OPS and other security agencies with information that would facilitate the arrest of the perpetrators of the attacks.
He said that the acts were criminal in nature and were capable of undermining the security of the country.
"There is no way we will fold our hands and allow the criminals to get away with it.
"It is a massive sabotage and critical to national assets; we must fish out those responsible for it.
"We don’t have our men on ground in the area that is why they were able to carry out the act,’’ he said.
He assured Niger Delta residents of JTF’s determination to eliminate illegality from the region.
The Brigade Commander, Brig.-Gen. Farouk Yahaya and the Commander, 3 Battalion, Igwe Omoke were on the team that visited the explosion site.
Others are Commander, Nigeria Navy Ship (NNS) Delta, Commodore Raimi Mohammed and other top ranking personnel from the Police and Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps.

The American Embassy in Baghdad confirmed that “several” US-citizens are missing. “We are working in full cooperation with Iraqi authorities to locate the missing Americans,” US Embassy spokesman Scott Bolz said.
The media reports are yet to be verified, but Arab news channel Al-Arabiya said the kidnapping has been confirmed by “well-informed sources.”
The US embassy in the Iraqi capital said it is aware of the reports but cannot comment as of yet.
US State Department spokesman John Kirby said that the US government has been informed of the reports of missing American citizens in Iraq and is “working with the full cooperation of the Iraqi authorities to locate and recover the individuals.”
“The safety and security of American citizens overseas is our highest priority,” Kirby added in his statement.
According to CNN correspondent Michael Holmes, citing a senior security official, three American contractors went missing in the Iraqi capital two days ago.

There’s no two ways about it: relationships are hard work! You have to commit to each other through thick and thin, set aside your desires to make your partner happy, make sacrifices, and the list goes on. No real relationship will ever be easy. But did you know that a bad relationship can take its toll on your body? And we’re not just talking your happiness–we’re talking your overall health! Here are some of the health dangers of bad relationships:
- Heart problems — In one study, patients were monitored over the course of 12 years. During that time, of the 10,000 people studied, those who were in negative relationships had a much higher chance of developing heart problems. Not only did they have a higher risk of heart problems, but the problems had a higher mortality rate. Some even suffered fatal cardiac events as a result!
- Reduced recovery –– Did you know that bad relationships can stop you from recovering from disease and injuries? Breast cancer survivors suffering in bad relationships had a harder time recovering, the result of high stress levels.
- Poorer health choices –– People in bad relationships often make poor choices when it comes to their health. Not only do they have a harder time sticking to their diet and exercise programs, but they often neglect to take medications for existing health conditions. Talk about a serious drawback!
- Excessive stress –– It’s a well-established fact that stress is a major contributor to a wide range of psychological and physiological disorders. Bad relationships can be a primary cause of stress, and that stress can affect performance in the workplace as well as at home. People in bad relationships tend to suffer reduced focus and concentration, have higher blood pressure, and start the day with higher levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Over time, this can lead to serious problems like depression, obesity, and even cardiac disease!
- Reduced mental function –– That’s right: being in a bad relationship can be bad for your brain. Healthy, committed relationships have been proven effective at boosting mental function, so it stands to reason that bad relationships have the opposite effect. People who go through multiple breakups or suffer through bad relationships tend to have poorer mental health than singles or people in happy, committed relationships.
- Poor life choices –– When you’re in an unhappy relationship, you often have to find other ways to “feel good”. This can lead to unhealthy choices, including smoking, drinking, and taking drugs in excess. The number of people who end up suffering from substance abuse as a result of their bad relationships is too damned high!
- Obesity –– It may be hard to hear, but it’s true. The stress of a bad relationship increases the production of the stress hormone cortisol, which messes with your internal hormonal balance. As a result, your body stores excess fat, and you begin to gain weight. Add to that poor diet, exercise, and life choices, and you have a recipe for obesity.
- Weak immune system –– Stress triggers the “fight or flight” response in our bodies, which produces adrenaline and cortisol in order to enhance our reaction to the stressor. But when you live with the chronic stress of a bad relationship, your body never fully gets out of the “fight or flight” response. Your immune system stays suppressed, leaving you exposed to a wide range of illnesses and health problems.
A member of a 3-man robbery gang arrested at the weekend by the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of Lagos State Command, has revealed that he went into robbery to raise funds for his diabetes drugs.
The suspect, Phillip Toihile, 24, along with his two accomplices, Salifu Abbey, 26, and Idris Sulyman, 28, were picked up in Ijora by the RRS operatives at about 10:00 pm while attempting to rob a taxi driver, Amori Fatai.
Upon arrival at the RRS’ headquarters at Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, Toihile, who confessed to the crime, explained that he went into robbery to raise N17,000 to buy his prescribed drugs.
The suspect, an ex-convict, who was released from Kirikiri prison in July 2014, stated: “This entire thing is like a temptation. With my condition, I am not expected to be found in a situation like this. I was sick. I went to a health centre. They said I am diabetic and that my sugar level was 475 milligram. The doctor prescribed some drugs worth about N17,000. I was told at the health centre to go and get the drugs and come back for further test.
“So, I invited my friend, Salifu Abbey, and I explained to him my situation. I sought his cooperation and he agreed to assist me to raise the funds. I got the gun that we used in Yaba Railway yard. The gun was wrapped with a polythene bag by cart pushers. I picked it with two live cartridges and we mapped out our plans.”
In his confessional statement to the police, the suspect narrated further: “I told Salifu to wave down a taxi cab. Our plan was for the cab to take us to a desolate place where we can rob and dispossess the driver of all his day’s takings. We told the driver that we were going to Ijora, and that we are going to get down in two separate points. I would get down first while Salifu would alight later.
“I sat at the back seat while Salifu was in front beside the driver hiding a locally made long gun in his rain jacket. We were close to my bus stop when the driver, apparently frightened asked for the fare.
“Salifu and I started arguing on who should pay the fare, which was part of our plan.
Unfortunately, Salifu was pulling out the gun when RRS men approached the vehicle to see if everything was alright with us but he noticed Salifu was trying to hide something. They searched the vehicle and found our gun, a knife on me and two live cartridges.”
Salifu, a labourer and Toihile’s accomplice has distanced himself from the crime.
“Although the gun was found on me, it was given to me by Toihile. He told me he was returning the gun to the owner in Ijora while he was on his way to his girlfriend’s house. He begged me to help him conceal the gun. Because he was looking frail and emaciated, if he had a gun on, people would spot it. Besides, what I was putting on was a jeans and overall jacket, I felt it was easier for me to hide the gun,” he said.
Salifu noted that he felt very bad getting involved in a robbery case, adding that his wife and children would not forgive him whenever they found out.
Another suspect, Sulayman, 28, who is an ex–convict, turned shoe cobbler, was fingered far away from the crime scene, by the two arrested suspects, as the leader of the gang when they were arrested.
While denying any involvement in the crime, Idris was arrested by the police when he was trying to monitor his gang operation through phone.
“After I regained my freedom from prison about a year ago, I have turned a new leaf,” he added.
He maintained that he was trying to know the whereabouts of Salifu, whose wife, he claimed, visited his shop when they didn’t see him at home.
The taxi driver, Fatai, said that he took the suspects at about 9:30p.m in Yaba.
“Because they were two and were dropping off at separate locations, I charged them N700 but they negotiated to pay N500 and I carried them. I sensed some strange feeling a few minutes later when I requested for fare and they started arguing.
“At this time, we were close to Ijora. I parked and waited for them to settle the issue among themselves. Suddenly, Salifu, who sat beside me in front brought out a gun and just in the nick of time, the RRS parked beside us and sighted the gun. That was how they were arrested,” the cab driver explained.
“I never knew they had planned to rob me, even kill me because I had no money on me. I got the vehicle on hire purchase. I am only using the vehicle to support my main business, I am a mechanic. Whenever I close from workshop, I pick up my taxi,” he stated.
